在此社会背景下，纪录片《前浪》将镜头对准老年人，通过长时间的跟踪拍摄，记录他们所遭遇的爱与痛，揭示老年生活的真实图景。我们希望用一个个鲜活的人物故事去柔化和缓解公众对老年人的刻板印象，从而可以把老年人当成一个“人”来看待，这是一个文明社会的良心，也是《前浪》这部纪录片的初衷。
我们围绕老年人的情感、心理、生理、社会处境等方方面面，对“老年”进行更多维度的探讨，也回归到人与生命的本质上进行思考与立意。从先前着重指出“社会对老年人普遍存在刻板印象”，到不再满足于做代际关系式的单一讨论；从反映老年人的孤独，到努力挖掘他们生活中的光亮；从单纯地呈现衰老给中国家庭带来的一地鸡毛，到努力发现生命中的真善美；从单一视角转变为复杂多元的综合思考，让立意有了更扎实的分量，更广阔的视角和更充分的意涵。这不仅更趋近于人性的真实，也还原了纪录片求真求实的属性。。
