故事根据大冈升平的同名战争文学小说改编，以第2次世界大战末期为舞台，讲述了日本当年攻打菲律宾的战争故事。通过一个普通士兵的视角，展示了二战时菲律宾战场的残酷。。Restoration carried out by the National Museum of Singapore and the World Cinema Foundation.
