He has decided to leave, but a snow avalanche is crushed in the mountains, making it impossible for him to leave. Soon, inspector has found a body of a dead lodger. This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。美国中央情报局的特种兵炸弹专家雷（西尔维斯特•史泰龙 Sylvester Stallone 饰）因为过失引咎辞职，辞职后的他靠当职业杀手为生。这天他接到了神秘女子美（莎朗.斯通 Sharon Stone 饰）的生意，美要他杀死当地的黑社会头子。其实美就是那个黑社会头子的情妇，因他早前曾杀害了美的父母，所以美不惜一切要报父母之仇。美甚至以身体作为引诱，雷接下了这单生意，两人也暗暗互生情愫。
雷在准备行动中，发现了黑社会头子的贴身保镖就是自己当年在特种兵部队里的死对头立特，旧恨新仇交织在一起，于是一场生死大战在两个前特种兵之间展开了！。
