1980年代初，黄山农村姑娘龚玲玲（李羚 饰），为替家还债，只身赴京城当保姆。刚进城的农村人不免被个别城里人用异样目光看待，玲玲也不例外。初到齐家，主人一家总对她的行为产生不信任，连买个莱也怀疑她做了手脚。尽管终日埋头苦干，始终得不到主人的好评，最终因为一件毛衣的丢失，玲玲不堪侮辱，冒雨离开齐家。转入赵家照顾产妇柳红荣（赵雅珉 饰），相同的命运很快使两人情同姐妹。不久柳遭丈夫抛弃，生活的拮据使她无力承担玲玲的工资，玲玲无奈离开。后经同乡介绍，她辗转来到周家，周家待她视如已出，她不仅学了一手烹饪技术，还练就一手好书法，并在周家的帮助鼓励下，办起了知青饭店......。Picture-perfect Neve (County Line’s Ashley Madekwe) has it all – a beautiful family and a lavish lifestyle.
