正值中年的刘立成（张嘉译 饰）是某大学社会学教授，在外他是学识渊博，谈吐潇洒的婚姻问题专家，人们都将他的讲座光盘奉为圭臬，然而回到家中的刘立成却有着难以道尽的苦衷。刘的妻子孙晓丹（朱媛媛 饰）美丽干练，独当一面，但是洁癖的毛病可真真害苦了劳工刘立成。加上从结婚起就和公婆住在一起，心高气傲的晓丹自然有着诸多愤懑与不平，于是乎她和丈夫的争吵不断，矛盾也逐渐升级，最终闹到了离婚的地步。
