雁南归（许冠文 饰）与远嫁香港的妹妹阿萍（郑雅文 饰）分离多年，虽然阿萍常寄钱物，但雁南归大都用来为村民谋福，自己整日在树林中腾跃劳作，落得快活。这一日，雁南归终于决定奔赴香港，探望妹妹和传闻中富足的妹夫黄嘉范（黄百鸣 饰）。然而雁南归甫一抵达，便发现实情颇有出入，妹妹一家四口与嘉范未嫁的空姐小妹黄嘉玲（王祖贤 饰）挤在一间不大的两居室里，黄嘉范只凭鞋店店员的工作养家。同时，黄家人对雁南归大大咧咧的乡下作风颇感不适，双方硬凑一个屋檐下，惹起诸多矛盾。雁南归经黄嘉范介绍入鞋店工作，但只一天便被老板娘逐出；嘉玲与富商公子的关系不久也被雁南归搞砸。失落之下雁南归参加有奖节目意外获得出国机会，却不幸在旅途中遭遇不测……。“What is a woman to do in the current dating climate?
