1900年春，青城水烟商家孟府的大公子孟祥河带着妻儿回到青城，卷入了林奇川、孙三一伙侵吞孟家产业的凶险漩涡。靠自己的枪法和同骆五、王管带的关系，孟祥河让林奇川一伙断绝了吞没孟家财产的念头。凭借敏锐的商业嗅觉，孟买下了滞销的大量水烟，成为青城首富。辛亥革命爆发后，孟组织青城商界为革命军筹集资金，差点被林奇川一伙害得家破人亡。1937年，日军侵略中国，派飞机轰炸兰州城。孟祥河儿子孟岸、儿媳林琅为掩护民众撤离而被炸死。儿子﹑儿媳的牺牲使其更加坚定了抗日决心，主动上门找林奇川冰释前嫌，共谋抗战大业。在亲人的尸骨面前，两位几十年的仇敌，在民族危难的大是大非面前尽释前嫌，携手组织“抗日同盟会”，并散尽家产，将所得银两全部捐给了“八路军兰州办事处”，支援民族抗日大业……。SYNOPSIS Urgently called, the police inspector has arrived in a hotel, and didn't find any crime, but noticed some strangenesses occurring there. (Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。
