话剧院优秀青年演员周华（宋丹丹 饰）事业与爱情双得意，然厄运突然袭来，她被诊断患有严重肾炎，被迫推迟与同剧院的恋人方波（英达 饰）的婚期。治病期间，周华邂逅耿直、忠厚的出租车司机高强（谢园 饰）。经过一段时间交往，两人对彼此都产生爱意，而碍于世俗的观念，他们始终将感情埋藏心底。
