刘雅历（林子祥 饰）是一名广告公司高层，但感情生活并不如意——女友碧姬（关之琳 饰）与他分手了。本来就沉默寡言的雅历更加孤寂伤痛了，生活依旧刻板平凡。
后来他在一个合唱团里认识了一位极有天分的女孩巫慧敏（周慧敏 饰），本来打算对她多加照顾培训，却遭到慧敏母亲朱丽娥（郑裕玲 饰）的不满，以为雅历对自己年轻的女儿动了歪念，两人也因此成为了斗气冤家。
